Every AAWSAP technical report funded under the DIA's FY2009 program, in one sortable register.
Between 2008 and 2010, the Defense Intelligence Agency's Advanced Aerospace Weapon System Applications Program (AAWSAP) — administered for DIA by Bigelow Aerospace Advanced Space Studies (BAASS) — commissioned 38 technical papers, known as Defense Intelligence Reference Documents (DIRDs), from outside physicists, engineers, and academics. Thirty-seven were released to The Black Vault via FOIA case 00159-2018 and posted to the DIA FOIA Electronic Reading Room; one remains withheld as SECRET//NOFORN.
Compiled from the DIA FOIA Electronic Reading Room, the original 38-title FOIA release list, and The Black Vault's AAWSAP documentation archive. Verified 5 August 2026. Not an official government product.

About this register
AAWSAP was a Pentagon research effort run out of the Defense Intelligence Agency from roughly 2008–2012, best known publicly as the funding vehicle behind what later became associated with the Advanced Aviation Threat Identification Program (AATIP). Congress required DIA to deliver 38 short technical papers ("Defense Intelligence Reference Documents") surveying speculative and frontier aerospace science — from fusion propulsion and metamaterials to gravity control and quantum communication — authored by contracted academics and engineers rather than government scientists.
All 38 titles, authors, and affiliations were confirmed via a 2018 FOIA congressional release list; 37 full documents were subsequently released to researcher John Greenewald Jr. of The Black Vault under FOIA case 00159-2018 and are hosted in DIA's FOIA Electronic Reading Room. Report #38, a classified companion volume on high-energy laser weapons, remains withheld as SECRET//NOFORN and is the subject of an ongoing FOIA appeal.
